Method For Letting Go Of Unhealthy Relationships

Method for Letting Go Of Unhealthy Relatioships: Hope Wynns, July 2008

Have you ever been in a relationship and one of your friends gives you this great advice:

You just need to let go!

Well, hello Einstein - isn't that obvious!  "So, now Einstein, my friend", you ask "how exactly do you go about letting go of unhealthy relationships?"

Be prepared to be deafened by the silence!

At the last count, none of my friends have ever been able to tell me how to do this.  And in defence of my friends they are pretty good bunch of intelligent, reasonable adjusted normal people.

Letting go of unhealthy relationships or anything else, is much easier said than done. Especially, if you have not dealt with it early.

My mother's favorite advice was "Time heals everything".  Since it was mom who drummed that into me, I have been a firm believer in that one for many years!  And it does work with some things.

But unhealthy relationships are different.  They seem to leave something that lingers and eats you up and not even time will heal that.

You want to know:
  • Why did I have this relationship?
  • What did I do to deserve that relationship?
  • Could I have made it better?
  • Was it me?
Those unresolved issues and feelings just keep replaying and holding you back from future healthy and fulfilling relationships. They can linger for months or even years. So how can you overcome this?

For me, the breakthrough came a few years ago I came across a technique called The Sedona Method by Hale Dwoskin for letting go or releasing.  It was simple, but incredibly effective.

The method takes a bit of patience and practice to master it, but it is certainly worth the effort.

The simplicity is within the words - "just let go".  Like many techniques to improve your outlook on life, you have to go within.  The methodology takes you through this easily and the program covers so much more than just letting go of unhealthy relationships.  It shows you how to let go of things that hold you back.

The feeling you get when you really do let go or release those unwanted feelings, is so overwhelming, and so cleansing - the word is carthartic (which really means cleaning out and letting go!).
